After two years in the making, we are proud to announce the publication of The Comfrey Almanac!

In the early months of 2024, we began documenting the skills, wisdom and practical know-how that shape everyday life at The Comfrey Project (https://thecomfreyproject.org.uk/the-comfrey-almanac/). The project was supported by ESRC’s Impact Acceleration Account, the North East Combined Authority, Newcastle University Centre for Researching Cities, the Humanities Research Institute, the School of Modern Languages at Newcastle University, as well as generous individual donations.

This book brings together cultural wisdom shaped by the seasons and generously shared by refugees who have brought their skills and knowledge to the North East.

Organised by month, The Comfrey Almanac combines art and stories, recipes, natural remedies and gardening knowledge shared by members of The Comfrey Project community, with coordination by Dr Gillian Jein. It offers a year-long guide to living in closer connection with nature, reflecting the cultural calendars and seasonal rhythms from around the world.

The Comfrey Almanac is already beginning to find its way to the shelves of libraries and bookshops across the country. If you would like to purchase your copy of The Comfrey Almanac and support the work we do you can click here
